Penske Automotive Group skews premium-brand franchises; Lithia Motors (with its Driveway online arm) is one of the largest dealer groups by store count. Both are established, audited, publicly traded companies — the counterparty risk is negligible. The buyer's work is all in the documents:
- Certified pre-owned at a Penske store means the manufacturer's CPO program — ask which one, because coverage differs by brand.
- Lithia/Driveway remote purchases include vehicle shipping to your door; get the delivery window and the return-window start date (delivery day, not purchase day) in writing.
- At any franchise store, the buyer's order lists doc fee, title fee, and add-ons as separate lines. Photograph it before you sign.
Established does not mean cheap. It means the paperwork is real and enforceable — use that.
